NEWBURYPORT ARCHIVAL CENTER

The Newburyport Archival Center is one of the most exciting new spaces in the renovated and expanded library. This state-of-the-art facility can be used for amateur and professional research, photocopying, photographic duplication and preservation of genealogical and historical volumes. It contains unique primary sources not previously used by the public, as well as hundreds of volumes used for genealogical research. With a capacity of 10,000 volumes, the Newburyport Archival Center can house, catalog, and preserve, in addition to the library's collections, official city records; and, for the first time, is able to accept and accession the unique private collections which reflect the history and culture of Newburyport. A fully qualified archivist on the library staff is responsible for the Center's management, and can be reached by calling the library at 978 465-4428, ext. 229. The Newburyport Archival Center is open weekdays from 9 until noon, and 1 until 4; on most Wednesday evenings from 5:00 until 8:00 - please call first - and on Saturday mornings from 9 until noon. Contact Jessica Gill, Newburyport Archivist, at 978 465-4428, x229, or jgill@mailserv.mvlc.lib.ma.us.
