An offbeat tale of adventure.
Ella Robina: an eightysomething terminal patient who curses like a sailor, and who often washes down her “discomfort” pills with mixed drinks. John Robina: Ella’s husband (on the rare occasions that he remembers), a man with Alzheimer’s who enjoys trimming the tops off of bread bags and driving 10 miles under the speed limit. The Leisure Seeker: an old RV who’s about 40 years past her prime. Against the wishes of their family, doctors and law enforcement, Ella and John Robina embark on the trip of a lifetime. Following historic Route 66, they travel from Detroit to Disneyland - by day stopping at corny roadside attractions, and by night watching slides of their life together. There’s only one way they’re going to end this book - on their own terms. A great read – you’ll be shocked that such a strong eightysomething woman is written by a forty something guy. Recommended for book groups.
