An inside view into women who commit crimes...
While watching the evening news and hearing reports of women committing crime, did you ever ask yourself how could they do that, why did they get involved in crime? Reading this book of personal stories by women inside a women’s penitentiary will help give you some answers. The well-known fiction writer Wally Lamb became involved in teaching writing at a workshop for female prisoners in Connecticut’s York Correctional Institute. He was so moved by these women and their stories that he felt compelled to share their writings with us. Couldn’t Keep it to Myself: Testimonies from our Imprisoned Sisters is the work of women who through learning to write are also learning to understand themselves. In today’s society, when so many of our citizens are living in prisons, a book like this should not be just shelved and forgotten like these women have been.
