Works by Mary Daly
A collection of a thinker's works...
Mary Daly, [1928-2010] was a prodigious writer, a deep and complex thinker, a philosopher, and a passionate defender of the natural world, animals' and women's rights. She earned several doctorates in both religion and philosophy and taught at Boston College for about thirty years. Mary Daly's books include The Church and the Second Sex, Beyond God the Father, Gyn/Ecology: The Metaethics of Radical Feminism, Pure Lust: Elemental Feminist Philosophy, The Wickedary written with Jane Caputi, Outercourse: The Be-Dazzling Voyage, Quintessence: Realizing the Archaic Future, and Amazon Grace. It was Daly who created the now standard practice of revealing the true nature of words-a common example is the use of the word dis-ease to denote illness in a deeper sense. For this reason, a first time reader of Daly's works would likely choose the Wickedary which, like most of Daly's works, uses humor to diffuse some of the difficult topics she brings to light. Mary Daly was a brilliant thinker who had the courage to research and present, unambiguously and stunningly, the true nature of organized religion, politics, social customs, and science, and their effects on the planet and its inhabitants.
