“The Last Resort: A Memoir of Zimbabwe” by Douglas Rogers
A memoir of a turbulent country...
“The Last Resort: A Memoir of Zimbabwe” is written by Douglas Rogers, born in Zimbabwe and currently a travel writer based in New York. Rogers’ book is both a personal memoir of growing up in Zimbabwe and of his return to assist his parents, as well as a view of Zimbabwe under dictator Robert Mugabe’s rule. Rogers chronicles the challenges that black and white Zimbabweans face every day, from his parents struggles as they attempt to hang on to their land, to the corruption and violence that impacts life for the average citizen. Rogers writes with humor and compassion, making this vivid memoir come alive. Images and stories of people and places will remain with you long after finishing this book. This is one of the best reads of the year – I couldn’t put it down! Written by Douglas Roberts, 2009. This title is located on the third floor in the non-fiction collection (968.91 Rog).
