This Time Together: Laughter and Reflection by Carol Burnett
A funny and touching memoir...
I highly recommend Carol Burnett's book, This Time Together: Laughter and Reflection, because it is a laugh- out- loud type of read, and well written. With easy short chapters, Carol talks about how she got started in show business and all the great people she met along the way. Some of the people were Lucille Ball, Sid Caesar, Cary Grant, Jimmy Stewart, Marlon Brando, Julie Andrews, Walter Matthau and many more. Carol had watched a lot of the great comedy-variety shows in the early days of television, like Your Show of Shows, The Jackie Gleason Show, Caesar's Hour and The Garry Moore Variety Show. So when Carol was ready to put together her own TV family show back in late sixties, it seemed only natural to call it "The Carol Burnett Show". The fabulous stars that contributed to the show's success were Tim Conway, Harvey Korman, Vickie Lawrence and Lyle Waggoner. Also, what makes this book enjoyable to read is her stories of her family life with her mama, nanny, husband and 3 daughters, some of happy, sad and hilarious. If your looking for a book that is open, honest and entertaining and you have fond memories of watching her TV family show, I don't think you will be disappointed.
