A twisted road trip through America's back roads and small towns...
American Gods is an award winning novel by author Neil Gaiman. The novel focuses on Shadow, a mysterious man who gets out of prison only to find his world turned upside down. While mourning the recent death of his wife, Shadow is recruited by the inscrutable Mr Wednesday. Mr Wednesday wants Shadow to work for him as a sort of body guard/errand boy as he travels the country checking in on old business associates, never really revealing his goal. Shadow tags along mainly because he has nothing to lose. As their journey continues Shadow finds out the truth about who or what Mr Wednesday is and what he has planned. American Gods is a mystery, supernatural thriller, and road trip story rolled into one. We get to see the little towns, rest stops, and tourist attractions sprinkled across the country, but we see them through outsiders’ eyes. Mr Wednesday and his friends are not exactly human and they struggle to deal with modern Americans and the gods they worship. The book is a fast read, well written, and has a unique and compelling tone.
