A young woman's journey into the haunted past...
The Tiger's Wife by Tea Obreht The Tiger's Wife is set in the former Yugoslavia, though the author never uses specific countries' names. The narrator is a young Serb doctor who travels to an orphanage across the border in Croatia in the early days following the war. Along the way she encounters many interesting people and relates the life story of her grandfather, an accomplished doctor who has just passed away. The narrator attempts to unravel some mysteries of her grandfather's life, while also navigating the increasingly complicated political and social environment in her native land. Excellent writing and a story that will definitely suck you in.
