Melissa Drake from the Buttonwoods Museum in Haverhill will be here discussing the Merrimack River's role in shaping industry in the Merrimack Valley. The Merrimack River played a major role in the settlement of this area. From the Pennacook Tribe's use of the river for trade and transport, to the harnessing of the river's power during industrialization in the 19th century, the river has supplied the raw materials for life and work along its shores. This lecture will cover the history of the river and the environmental effects of industry past and present.
