Event New England Pie

November 5, 2019 | 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm

"New England pie: history under a crust" author Robert Cox explores the origin and evolution of popular pie ingredients, such as the Revolutionary roots of the Boston cream pie, and celebrates the seasonal fixings that fill New Englanders’ favorite dessert from apple and cherry to pumpkin and squash. He will be selling his book, which includes classic recipes and modern twists, featuring both savory and sweet selections one month at a time. Refreshments (pie, of course) will be provided.

Registration is required and is now open. Participants can sign up online here, at the reference desk or by calling 978-465-4428 x242.

Rob Cox is head of Special Collections and University Archives at UMass Amherst, an archive that specializes in the history of social change and the histories of New England including the history of food in our region. As an historian, he has written on American religious movements, Quakers and Native Americans, and New England’s foods.
