Get Involved


There are many ways to get involved and be part of the Newburyport Public Library. You can join the Friends of the Library, a non–profit organization that engages in a variety of activities to support and raise funds for the Newburyport Public Library. You can become a library volunteer. You can donate a book in honor of someone or for a special occasion. You may give a monetary donation or gift to the Friends of the Library. You can use the Library, and enjoy and share your library experiences with family, friends, and neighbors.


Get Volunteer Form

Volunteers are an important part of the Newburyport Public Library. The Library Volunteer Program welcomes adults and young adults to contribute to our vibrant institution. Volunteers are required to complete an application form, submit to a CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information) check through the Massachusetts CHSB, and participate in an orientation and training session prior to beginning the Volunteer Program.

Volunteers contribute 1–3 hours a week. Volunteer tasks include:

Gifts and Donations

Staff ready to assist!

A donation to the Newburyport Public Library helps to support our efforts to meet the informational, educational and recreational needs of the community through open and equal access to cultural, intellectual, recreational, and information resources and programs. Private support allows the Library to achieve what public funding cannot.

Monetary gifts can be made by check to “The Friends of the Newburyport Public Library.” Besides a general donation, you can contribute your gift to a specific fund or for a chosen purpose. You can also choose to pdf icondonate funds to purchase a book or other library materials, or to establish a book fund in honor of an individual or special occasion, or in memory of a loved one. Gift books have a special book plate which gives the name of the person or occasion that is being honored.

Gifts by bequest create a lasting legacy for generations of library users. Over the years, many Library patrons and supporters have remembered the Newburyport Public Library as they prepare or revise their wills. Contact the Head Librarian for more information.
